Finance Literacy Seminar in Rajamahendravaram

Finance Seminar - in July of 2024, I traveled to my family’s hometown of Rajamahendravaram and was encouraged to give three seperate seminars on important financial literacy topics including HYSA’s, compound interest, the stock market, ETFs/mutual funds, etc to freshmen and sophomores. This was an important topic to discuss given the education system in India, which prioritizes fields such as computer science and medicine and largely ignores finance. Through this trip, I learned effective communication skills, strengthened my public speaking abilities, and also deepened my knowledge in finance enough to be able to properly educate others.

CAM

Charger Asset Management - also known as CAM, this group was an exclusive board at my school. Only accepting 16 students across all four grades, their focus is on investing school funds on securities with high growth potential and dividend yield. I specifically worked with students in the consumer discretionary and materials sectors, and together we managed to generate 11% returns and $4,000 in dividends, which went towards funding charities and philanthropic efforts at our school. This opportunity was incredibly impactful as it allowed me to truly practice investing while making a difference in our school’s community.

Finance Podcast🎙️

Personal Finance Podcast - after collecting a vast amount of knowledge in finance over the course of my freshman and sophomore years, I started writing scripts for a podcast that I am planning on launching soon. This podcast will contain episodes that discuss the same concepts I talked about in India (savings accounts, compound interest, the stock market, etc.), but will allow me to reach a wider audience.

Mentorship experience

Since middle school, I have consistently tutored younger family members and friends in math and history, ranging from arithmetic and the American revolution to advanced trigonometry and Jacksonian democracy. This opportunity not only allowed me to connect more with people I am close to, but also helped me better understand the concepts myself and improved my methods of teaching, as they are not one-size-fits-all

What others experienced

" I loved the entire experience. I was stuck with my project for a LONG time and I'm glad my mentor helped me. Not only did she help me with my project but she helped me connect with other researchers and experts."
