Bio

Katie is a Junior at Lower Merion High School in Wynnewood Pennsylvania. She has always loved volunteering and helping others. Katie was inspired when she was a patient at a hospital and heard a family talking about staying at the Ronald McDonald house while their child received serious medical attention. She then began to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House for her Bat-Mitzvah project in 7th grade for over 30 hours. Katie furthered her volunteering with the RMH by founding a Ronald McDonald House club at her high school. As President of her high school chapter, she realized that not many people were aware of the RMH’s mission to help families with ill children. She wanted to spread her knowledge of the RMH by blogging her travels across the US to volunteer at Ronald McDonald Houses and participation in foundation events through LinkedIn and Facebook. Katie also connected with the producer of a film about the co-founder of the first RMH. The film is currently in post-production, but Katie will help promote the film and spread awareness on social media!.She hopes that her love of helping those in need will inspire others to do the same.

IMPACT PROJECTS  | HIGHLIGHTS

Founder of Ronald McDonald House at LMHS

  • I have provided comfort, compassion, and friendship to those staying at the RMH, as well as helping to raise awareness to the wonderful mission of the RMH.
  • I have helped other students who are looking to donate time and energy to a worthy cause and how to focus on interest towards something they can be passionate about.
  • I established a club that will survive beyond my time in high school. I have truly learned that when you donate your time to something you are truly passionate about, your efforts become contagious to those around you.

Mentorship Experience

1. Over the summer of 2022 summer I collaborated with teens from across the US on a community service teen tour in Costa Rica. Together we spent 60 hours over three weeks caring for animals at an animal refuge, painting a community center, installing freshwater filtration systems, and preparing food for 1,700 people.

2. As founder and President of my school’s Ronald McDonald House Club, I work with high school students of all grades to prepare care kits, food drives, and meals for the Philadelphia RMH, and surrounding areas.

What others experienced

" I loved the entire experience. I was stuck with my project for a LONG time and I'm glad my mentor helped me. Not only did she help me with my project but she helped me connect with other researchers and experts."
