Bio

Hello! I am Sonali Sachdeva, a junior at The Potomac School. I am passionate about all things, political science, administration, and my community. For me, my community is something of vital importance to me. I love to use my time to give back to others whenever possible. I hope to make a difference in my community by inspiring others to pursue their own interests and passions. Some of my strengths include leadership, public speaking, and open-mindedness. I speak English and am currently learning Spanish. I play varsity tennis, lead two clubs, and am a Peer Leader at my school. In my free time I enjoy journaling and reading!

IMPACT PROJECTS  | HIGHLIGHTS

Mission Period (non-profit)

Her impact project is a non-profit I founded called Mission Period. Her mission statement for Mission Period. is to help uplift and support all who suffer from poverty by providing menstrual hygiene products to those in need and increasing global awareness of period poverty so that all menstruators can experience safe, sanitary, and stress-free cycles. Sonali is still working on Mission Period. and will continue to do so to help increase the weight of her impact. Although it is not spoken about often, periods are a big aspect of any menstruators life. She strives to help the people who need it without judgment and through care. Mission Period. kicked off with a Period Product Drive in which over 15,000-period products were raised. She wants to continue the effect of this positive impact as it helps more people than anyone realizes.

President of Youtoo Tennis Club

Sonali also leads a club called YouToo Tennis where weekly tennis sessions are held for children from the Northern Virginia Autism Society. These sessions are completely run by high school volunteers whom she helps recruit and work with. The impact of playing with these kids for only an hour greatly improves their skills and abilities. This position has taught her patience and flexibility according to the student and their requirements.

Mentorship-related experience:

  1. I lead a club called YouToo Tennis where weekly tennis sessions are held for children from the Northern Virginia Autism Society. These sessions are completely run by highschool volunteers who I help recruit and work with. The impact of playing with these kids for only an hour greatly improves their skills and abilities. This position has taught me patience and flexibility according to the student and their requirements.

  1. I tutor math for underclassmen at my high school and tutor reading and writing for teens online, outside of my school. For me, teaching is about finding a student's preferred learning method and adapting my teaching style to cater to their needs.

  1. I help coach middle school students in Public Forum Debate at my school.

What others experienced

" I loved the entire experience. I was stuck with my project for a LONG time and I'm glad my mentor helped me. Not only did she help me with my project but she helped me connect with other researchers and experts."
